So, those of you who read it will notice the absence of the "pick your battles" post. Yeah, turns out it was not such a useless argument. Turns out it was some big thing that had been cooking in S that I had no idea about. Anyway, it turned into a miserable weekend, complete with tears and silent treatments and laying on the couch all day in my robe. But, that's done with, and he realized it was all his fault and apologized. Hopefully that's the last time we argue until it comes time to decide whether or not to circumsize the boychild.
In other news, my left knee is the size of a grapefruit for no discernible reason. Doesn't hurt, just a little pressure, but huge just the same. One theory is that there is a third fetus hiding in there. Another theory is that's where the aliens put the tracking device. Eh, I just hope it's not the former. Two's enough. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't explode or anything (with a thousand baby spiders!!!)
They are based out of Minnesota. Oops, no, not those kind of twins, silly rabbit!
For real:
1. The rate of twins in Europeans and White Americans falls between 4-8 per 1000 births. Ok, so I'm already a tiny percentage.
2. The older the mother (35-39 peak years), the more likely she is to have twins. Umm, I'm not that old.
3. Statistics show that the more children a woman has, the greater her chance of conceiving twins. Duh, I have no other children.
4. A mother who has already borne twins has a higher chance of conceiving another pair. (See comment to #3)
5. The influence of heredity through the paternal line, in general, is unclear. S's dad is a fraternal twin.
6. If a woman has a history of twins in her family on her mother's side, or is she is a twin herself, her chances of conceiving twins are increased. Nope, and Nope.
7. The use of oral contraceptives has been shown to increase the chance of twin pregnancy. Again, no BC pills for me. Are you detecting a pattern?
8. Older, heavier and taller women with several children have the greatest tendency to bear twins. Not old, not heavy, not tall. (This is why twinning rates is lowest among Asians, by the way.)
9. Twinning has always been more common in rural than in urban areas--Yay, I got one! Oh, but wait--due to the larger stature and superior physical fitness of rural women, as well as better diet. Must I laugh out loud?
10. The highest number of twin births usually occur in November and the lowest in April. I'm due 4/26.
Um, so I guess I'm an anomaly to all this lovely twin research floating around. Further proof that I am having a)magic beans, b)super hero twins (Fire and Ice is what Daddy's calling them), or c)aliens. You be the judge.
I'll give the person who can explain this--"We must remember that an egg links three generations, having begun its existence during the grandmother's pregnancy."--to me one of the babies.
