The one thing (or at least one of the things, to be fair) that I do love about this dirty-south-temporary home of mine is that there is the smell of Magnolia blooms on the air. May has been fair this year, despite the tornado sirens, with warm days and cool nights, and my two big Magnolia trees are blooming like they never have before. The smell is deafening and wonderful.
I have *heard* that it is illegal to cut down a Magnolia tree in this state, without a permit, of course. But I can't imagine destroying anything that emits such a scent.
